Bayer reveals new addition to parasite protection portfolio

Bayer Animal Health has today announced that Advocate®, the spot-on parasiticide for pets, is now available in a new 21-pack format.

The new pack allows vets greater flexibility in their prescription of Advocate® to owners, offering an additional choice from the 3-pack and 6-pack quantities currently available. The addition of the new dispensing pack format is designed to make it easier for vets to sell and dispense individual pipettes where required as part of healthcare plans.

Advocate® is licensed to treat and prevent flea infestations in cats, dogs and ferrets. In cats and dogs, this monthly spot-on also provides broad-spectrum worming coverage of intestinal nematodes, including Roundworm Hookworm and Whipworm. Advocate® is also licensed for treatment and prevention of the lungworm Angiostrongylus vasorum, for treatment of the fox lungworm Crenosoma vulpis and treatment of biting lice.

In addition, Advocate® provides effective treatment of mite infestations including Ear Mites (Otodectes cynotis), Sarcoptes Mites (Sarcoptes scabiei & Notoedres cati) and Demodex Mites (Demodex canis). It is also licensed for travelling pet risks providing prevention of Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis), cutaneous dirofilariosis (Dirofilaria repens)* and spirocercosis (Spirocerca lupi).

Caroline Braidwood, group product manager at Bayer, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer this new line to vets in the hope that we are making it easier for them to prescribe Advocate® to owners which offers them efficacy, ease-of-use and ultimately peace of mind. With an increase in the need for treatments, as the parasitic threats to pets continue to evolve, we endeavour to help protect animals from the broadest possible range of parasitic diseases with our comprehensive product range.”

As part of their wider It’s a Jungle Out There’ parasite initiative, Bayer Animal Health is campaigning for greater action against lungworm in 2014, using hard-hitting real life owner experiences to encourage proactive preventative treatment.

Bayer’s 2014 campaign, ‘Act on Lungworm’, seeks to promote the action that is needed to prevent dogs from dying unnecessarily, in addition to raising awareness of the parasite. The campaign will also provide support to vets in providing them with the information to allow their clients to make an informed decision about their parasite control based on risk.

The new 21-pack format of Advocate® is available now either from wholesalers or via your Bayer Territory manager. For more information, please contact your local Bayer Territory Manager.
