Clinical Governance CPD workshop and watersports weekend for vets and practice managers

The British Equine Veterinary Association is holding a two-day interactive CPD workshop to help vets and practice managers get to grips and have some fun with one of their least favourite subjects, Clinical Governance. The session, to be held at Oakham Veterinary Hospital, Rutland on July 18 and 19, 2013, is aimed at helping delegates to get the best out of clinical audit and then remain buoyant for some exciting downtime water sports on nearby Rutland Water.

Clinical audit makes many practitioners “look on with fear and break out in hot and cold sweats,” says Lynne Hill, past President of the RCVS. However it is an essential aspect of the new RCVS Code of Professional Conduct and the Practice Standards Schemes so cannot be ignored.

The workshop follows on from BEVA’s highly successful two-day practice management course last summer and will enable delegates to conduct effective clinical audit in order to improve clinical standards and outcomes.

Day one will examine the ‘whys’ of clinical audit, drawing on experiences from the clinical audit support centre as well as from the RCVS practice standards scheme. To let off steam afterwards delegates can immerse themselves in some water-based team exercises including raft building and kayaking. Day two will focus on the practicalities of clinical audit and will be delivered by those with experience of audit and governance in equine practice. The day will close with a workshop to demonstrate the tools available to facilitate audit in practice. Speakers include Stephen Ashmore and Tracy Ruthven from the Clinical Audit Support Centre and equine practitioners Dr Mark Bowen, Dr John Burford, Dr Tim Mair and Ms Pam Mosedale.

The two-day course costs £375 for BEVA and VPMA members and £750 for non-members. The fee includes, activities, dinner and accommodation at the fabulous Barnsdale Hall Hotel.

Places are limited. To find out more and to book visit or contact David Hicks at BEVA on 01638 723 555.
