A Beach in Sri Lanka

Because of a last minute cancellation there is a vacant place on the SPVS tour, departing early on January 13th.  Generous sponsorship by Heny Schein Animal Health allows us to offer this place FREE to a new or recent veterinary graduate able to to join us at such short notice.

Our party of twenty vets and partners will be touring for twelve days, meeting members of the veterinary profession and learning about veterinary and animal welfare work there, while also taking the opportunity to enjoy the culture and wonderful scenery of the island.  We will visit the Millennium Elephant Foundation at Pinewala and the Elephant Transit Home at Uda Walawe and see the livestock farms at Ambewela.  We will visit the PetsV Care animal hospital in Colombo and we hope to meet the veterinary / ranger teams at Wasgamuwa and Yala National Parks.  At Peradiniya we will be meeting members of the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association and visiting the university Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science including the Veterinary  Teaching Hospital.  We will visit the Dept. of Animal Production & Health, and the Veterinary Research Institute at Gannoruwa.  However as well as the veterinary aspect of the tour there will be plenty of time to enjoy the tropical delights of Sri Lanka.  We will visit the ancient ruined cities of Anaradhapura and Polonnaruwa, explore the cave temples at Dambulla, the citadel at Sigyria and the Temple of the Tooth at Kandy. We will travel by train through the high hill country to Nuwaya Elyia and spend time on a tropical beach.

For a new or recent graduate, or two prepared to share a room, the flights and accommodation would be free.  You would be responsible for the costs of lunches, evening meals, entry to the cultural attractions and wildlife parks and optional tour of Abu Dhabi on the return journey.  You must be a member of SPVS at the time of departure (£28.60 for graduates qualified up to two years).
If  you would like to know more contact tour leader Richard Holborow at President@SPVS.org.uk , but act quickly as the opportunity will be available only briefly.  If you can't come but know of a new or recent vet graduate who might be interested, please let them know immediately.
