Royal Canin urges vets to go ‘itch-free’ with 2 weeks’ free elimination diet

With skin disease accounting for more than 20% of all veterinary consultations, practices are always looking for the most effective methods of managing dermatitis. Working up a skin case takes time and dedication and a food elimination trial is an essential part of this diagnostic process. However elimination trials only work if the owner is 100% compliant and, until recently, a negative food elimination trial was no guarantee that the pet is non-food allergic: some highly allergic dogs could still react to partially hydrolysed diets.

In response to this, Royal Canin developed Anallergenic – the first commercially available pet food with proteins hydrolysed to pure amino acid level. Royal Canin is so confident that Anallergenic is the new gold standard in elimination diets that this autumn the manufacturer is offering practices 2 weeks of complimentary food to accompany a purchase of a 6-week elimination trial*, meaning that they can feed suspected allergic dogs for longer and are more likely to definitively diagnose even the most refractory cases

The free food is being offered as the next stage in Royal Canin’s dermatology initiative, and follow two free ‘Decisions in Canine Dermatology’ webinars which the manufacturer hosted for vets on 13th August (with the second one scheduled for 27th August).

Royal Canin’s Veterinary Marketing Manager, Marianne Lomberg, explains: “Anallergenic provides vets with a sophisticated AFR diagnostic tool at their fingertips. What’s more, the Royal Canin range of diets includes different foods to use after the diagnosis has been established: Hypoallergenic for the long term maintenance of dogs with adverse food reactions and Skin Care for dogs whose dermatitis is non-food related. We are confident that participating practices who trial our diets won’t look back and we hope our dermatology focus will help practice clients enjoy an itch-free end to the year!”
