THE LONDON VET SHOW 2012

On the 15th and 16th November, over 3000 vets attended the 4th annual London Vet Show at the Olympia. The two-day event was packed full of CPD alongside exhibitions from a wide range of veterinary companies from referral centres and diagnostic imaging equipment to pet foods and pharmaceuticals. The show follows a similar format to the BSAVA congress but on a smaller scale and for a smaller price.  For the vet in practice with little time and budget to spend on CPD, The London Vet Show provides good quality lectures and product information under one roof.

London Vet Show was packed with stalls as well as a comprehensive lecture program!

For education, the show provided two day-long streams of small animal clinical lectures run by the RVC CPD department. The lectures were aimd at the general practitioner covering basic techniques, working through case studies and providing updates on age-old problems. This year the lectures had a gastro-enterological bias with topics such “Feline IBD versus intestinal lymphoma - does it really matter?”, “Getting the most from your scope - top tips for upper GI endoscopy” and “Feline triaditis - what is it, how do I diagnose and treat it?”. If this isn’t for you, there were plenty of other topics from ophthalmology, cardiology and dermatology to reptilian medicine and dentistry. Furthermore, additions lecture streams provided a broader range of CPD including a business program, advanced diagnostics run by Idexx laboratories and practical workshops organised by Dick White Referrals.

In the short breaks between lectures, the packed hall full of exhibitors was there to be explored. Pharmaceutical companies showcased new products with many a free pen, bag or T-shirt to reward your interest! It was a great opportunity to ask questions and explore the market.

With LVS 2013 already taking bookings, I’m in no doubt that next year’s show will be even more popular. They are combining with BVA congress and introducing new clinical streams in equine and bovine veterinary medicine, widening its appeal even further.  If you are looking for good value for money CPD, The London Vet Show is certainly worth a visit.
